Síncopa

Síncopa, syncopation, is an aspect of the music: a note that lands off the expected beat. There are typically 2 definitions of this word and they don’t mean the same things. There’s the syncopation of notes. And then there’s what you do with it. One really good example of Síncopa is Biagi’s “El Trece”. Listen for the double notes that happen in the first 30 seconds of the piece. It’s a pair of notes, with a break, then another pair, then a break, repeated over and over again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YI7ie1GB34

It shows up in Milonga and in any and all instances of Síncopa in Tango, Vals and Milonga. Dancers like Horacio Godoy play with it using Pitter-Patter.
