Intention Based Dancing is a reference to ‘less-is-more’ type of dancing. There is no physical pressure, skin to fabric contact, or air to air contact. And then ‘leading’ and ‘following’ from there. One intends to do something as a Lead, and the Follower feels that motion and completes the thought. If it sounds complicated. It’s not. Think of holding a baby and doing the absolute least amount that could possibly wake it. Now imagine that baby floating in your embrace, lightly, ever so lightly their swaddling touching your skin. You feel no weight of the baby at all but they feel your presence. That is the sensation of ‘intention’. The couple is lighter, the dance looks and feels effortless, there’s less stress, and far more precision in technique and musical interpretation. The goal is a hyper-awareness that lets you feel the smallest changes in your partner.
