Milonguero

A ‘Milonguero’ was someone raised in the milongas, who picked up discarded tickets to get in, watched how people danced and copied it so they could dance with the pretty girls. In those days it was a term of disparagement. Today ‘Milonguero’ is mostly a made-up marketing word, a bastardization of the true meaning of the word. When someone uses this word today, it does not reflect the history of the word. It has become glorified, whereas historically speaking it was anything but that. One had to earn the right to be called a Milonguero. Nearly all the old and younger guard who had rightfully earned the distinction to be called this word, have all died, sadly.
