The Argentine Rock Step is a very venerable piece of tango vocabulary. It’s used quite often as a way to avoid a hazard, and infrequently for what it’s primarily supposed to be used for: musical interpretation. Typically this is where the Lead will invite the Follower to take a step backwards, but as they transition into the weight transfer, they’re invited to instead ‘rock’ forwards instead of continuing backwards.
