Tango Topics Intensive Study Program
The Intensive Study Program is a 13-week (4 days per week, 2 hr sessions) immersive educational path designed to elevate your tango experience to a more desirable plateau. This is achieved through 52 personalized, one-on-one sessions, working on cleaning up your foundation, replacing or refining your technique, enhancing your listening skills, and expanding your repertoire. You’ll learn to:
-
- Master the Fundamentals: Solidify your foundation, walk, embrace, and the 5 Social Figures of Argentine Tango.
- Learn Both Roles: You will learn both sides of the embrace at the same time. This creates the proper awareness of what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. You will be expected to dance both roles, socially, for a time.
- Master the Fundamentals: Solidify your foundation, walk, embrace, and the 5 Social Figures of Argentine Tango.
-
- Understand the Music: Develop a far greater understanding of the music, learning to hear the 5 Pause Types of Argentine Tango.
-
- Advancing Your Repetoire: Explore advanced techniques that can help you to move more efficiently and effectively with each and every partner.
-
- Dance Socially: Gain confidence and skill to navigate the social dance floor with ease!
This intensive program is for serious dancers who are committed to creating a far more desirable dancing experience than they every thought possible.
Three Things:
1.) I’m selective in choosing my students, I am looking for dedicated individuals ready to commit to Tango Miles guided-improvement. This isn’t about becoming mirror copies of me (NO!), OR about learning steps, patterns, and tango figures; it’s about unlocking your full potential so that you can create a delicious dancing experience for every partner you dance with. I invest a great deal in my students, providing deep, personalized, guidance AND HOURS of support ON and OFF the dance floor to help them achieve extraordinary results. Not to scare you but this work is exceptionally intense and demanding, both physically and emotionally. It requires a deep level of hyper self-awareness and a willingness to make significant changes in your dance. We’ll be working to first identify, then correct, and ultimately replace your habits that may be hindering your dancing experiences that you are unaware of as a dancer. Let me address the ‘physical’ part > I have had dancers in their early 70s to 80s that do this work, and come out the other side no worse for the wear! So don’t let that part scare you.
2.) The investment in this program is significant which it offers exceptional value. For a fee of $4599, you’ll receive 52 two-hour sessions over 13 weeks. This equates to $44.22 per hour, which is substantially less than the typical cost of a one-on-one private lesson with any Tango teacher!
3.) Where Does This Take Place ? It can take place in your home town, but you must provide transit to, a space to work in, as well as a temp living space for me for 13 weeks. OR it can happen in Buenos Aires. You will be responsible for my transit cost (if I am not already in BsAS) which is tacked on to your fee upon arrival, and floor fees but I am responsible for the living space. Buenos Aires IS STRONGLY PREFERRED as there are numerous Milongas and Practicas to use as a testing ground. If you choose your home town, there must be milongas and practicas to attend for helping to create awareness about what you’re doing.
There are 4 levels of Intensive Tango Instruction.
Level 1 – 3 months, minimum 3 days a week, plus daily music homework. Studying the foundations and technique of both roles – leading and following. Going over forward, side, back, disassociation, applied disassociation, 6 kinds of walking, 6 of 8 kinds of ochos, 3 of 8 turn types, and the argentine cross. Focusing on less kinesthetic pressure and more intention based dancing Learning to lead and to follow all of that stuff plus clear guidance on how to, with access to the video library, and music library. Plus music history, music homework daily.
Level 2a – 3 months, 2 days per week. We focus on your gendered role first, going deeper into the foundations of forward, side, back, and disassociation, refining the skill. Creating deeper kinesthetic sensitivity towards a ‘lighter’, feather lite but highly enjoyable embrace type. – prerequisite – level 1
Level 2b – 3 months, 2 days per week. We focus on the opposite gendered role, going deeper into the foundations of forward, side, back, opposition, disassociation, refining your vocabulary skills. Creating deeper kinesthetic sensitivity towards a ‘lighter’, feather lite but highly enjoyable embrace type. – prerequisite – level 2a
Level 3 – 2 months, 1 day per week seminar format refining and deepening the skills developed in Levels 1 and 2. – prerequisite – levels 1, 2a, & 2b.
Rider Fees: A Rider Fee may be necessary for advancing aged students that with to study with me. It’s an extension of the work to 4 more weeks in either a Level 1 or Level 2 program. Rider Fees are generally .32x the Primary fee.
Usually I need to assess where you’re at, as well as you need to see what I’m like as a teacher in a 1-on-1 setting. For this reason, it’s advisable for you to do a 2hr primer session with me to see if we’re a good fit. The 2hr Primer Session is NOT included in the sessions and is an additional $225.00. This also includes a video assessment on your foundation materials, independent of a dance partner, as well as a dancing example that assesses your skills which you will have access to after the session via google drive.
