Here’s a bit of relevance from the DJ table.
If you’re not familiar with El Corte, you really should be. It is the reason why Tango exists in the form that it does in Europe. Further still it is because of El Corte that the Marathon craze got started, which led to the Encuentro insanity that follower after.
If you’re a Tango Music nerd, like I am, then this stuff will appeal to you. However, where this gentleman and I disagree is that BPM is a replacement for the ‘Feel’ or ‘Energy’ of a song. And using that to gauge temperature of song selection element.
Next, and I would appreciate Joris Erikson‘s confirmation on this, but if I’m NOT mistaken, there ARE cortinas played at El Corte. The multiple times I have been to a Chained Salon Weekend, I have heard cortinas. So I am at a loss to understand WHERE he got this idea that the cortina mechanism was not used there. Eric ? Please correct me.
Lastly, the Chained Salon Weekend is relevant to me for a few reasons, which will become obvious in a few months time, but also because I believe that everyone should experience these weekends for a wide variety of reasons. If you have the opportunity, you should drop what you’re doing and go. However, understand that one of the things about the CSW is that there is a limit to how many people can be inside El Corte at any time. And once that limit is reached, no one else can come in. There is no registration, there is no gender or role balancing. It’s First come, First served! You’d be doing yourself a service by going not once, but multiple times. Eric and his group put on a classy event.
